Styling the Bookshelves
Of all the tasks required to complete this One Room Challenge, I was by far most excited about styling the bookshelves! Interior styling is just one of those activities for me where time just kind of ceases to exist.
Styling this room was also particularly meaningful because my partner’s mother is an incredible artist. Previously, her pieces were displayed in random spots throughout the house where they were way too easy to overlook, but the built-ins were designed with her work in mind, providing a dedicated place where we could showcase her work in a more impactful way.
While I wish I had a detailed process to share, the truth is, my approach was pretty organic. I started by arranging the books by category, sorting them into piles, and then laying out all the available ceramics, framed photos, and various trinkets available for display. This method allowed me to visualize all my options as I placed items on the shelves and thought about how the next puzzle piece would fit.
Home Office Storage
The storage needs for the office were pretty random, ranging from card games and workout equipment to VR gaming gear and engineering tools. The lower bookcases were specifically designed to conceal that collection of items while keeping everything easily accessible.
One thing I’d caution when repurposing the kind of upper kitchen cabinets I used for the bookcase bases, is that they are relatively shallow in depth. In an office setting, this limited our options for file organizers. However, we found these on Amazon, which were a perfect fit. They are also easily transportable for when my partner needs to sort documents outside the home
For additional storage, I repurposed cardboard boxes we already had and a few old baskets from the Dollar Tree. They worked perfectly, and I felt good about using existing items instead of buying more stuff to organize my stuff.
Final Thoughts and Upcoming Reveal
I’m super excited for the final reveal next week! In addition to showcasing the finished home office, I’ll be providing a detailed breakdown of the material costs and the investment made in the tools used for this project. While the costs were minimal for me due to my significant investment in tools over the years, I’ll also highlight which tools you can do without if you want to tackle a similar project without a hefty investment.
I’m a sucker for shelf styling! I love how you styled your shelves!
Thank you so much!
